Penetrating Sealers
These sealers penetrate the substrate of the flooring material to block water migration from below the flooring surface which may cause mineral staining. Stone Glamor and S.P.S are penetrating sealers. Apply before topical sealer.

Topical Sealers
These sealers are designed to overcoat the flooring material. Thus preventing wear and delamination. Mex Seal.

Sigma Seal

Sparks Sigma Seal is a sealer designed for salt water pool hardscapes, harsher, outdoor environments where sunlight and salt spray are considerations.

Surfaces: stone, concrete, brick, and quarry tiles are easily protected from exterior elements such as rain, sun, salt water and salt spray.

Characteristics:

Water resistance: Greater than 72 hours exposure *

Oil resistance: 72 hours exposure to cooking oils, butter, etc.*

Resists common household cleaning products including ammonia, vinegar, aliphatic solvents and thinners, alcohols, detergents, etc.

Color: Sigma Seal will enhance and deepen existing colors. Degree of enhancement is dependent upon the porosity of the substrate.

Coverage: Dependent upon porosity of the substrate. Typical coverage on most surfaces varies between 600 and 800 square feet per gallon.

Oil based (solvent reduced): Penetration and adhesion greater than most waterborne/water reduced sealers.

Dry time: Depending upon temperature, humidity, ventilation, coating thickness and porosity of the substrate, anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours.

Temperature: Best if applied between 50 and 90 F. (10 C) min.

Hardness: Varies according to film thickness and temperature. Passes #2 pencil. Hard yet flexible so as to resist delamination common with wood urethanes, epoxies, etc.

Contra-indications: Not recommended for wood surfaces.

Preparation of substrate: Surfaces must be clean and dry and free of wax or detergent residues or existing sealers. The use of powdered acids to clean and prepare a substrate is not recommended they can interfere with a sealer. Best to use Sparks Brick & Tile Cleaner, then a clear rinse. If applying to existing salt water pool, rinse surfaces thoroughly with clean water to remove existing salt. Allow for complete drying.

Application: Soft bristle brushes, foam rubber brushes, paint pads or lambs wool applicator. Rollers are not recommended. Allow complete drying of previous coat before re-application. Hand pump sprayers may be used by professional installers. High pressure and high shear sprayers should be avoided. Additional precautions regarding health are recommended, such as respirators, eye protection and protective clothing and gloves.

Provide adequate ventilation during application and dry time.

* Sigma Seal is designed to handle intermittent exposure to water and oils, and not designed for constant exposure.

Stone Glamor

Sparks Stone Glamor is a highly versatile penetrating and topical sealer with a broad range of applications such as:

Quarry and clay tiles: Mexican saltillo, Spanish clay tiles, etc.
Stone Products: Slate, granite, sandstone, marble, limestone, travertine, etc.
Cementicious: Concrete, grouts and mortar, stucco, etc.

Stone Glamor is also great on alabaster, brick pavers, blocks, and stepping stones.

Technical:

Water resistance: 72 hours submersion without degradation.

Oil resistance: 72 hours resistance to household oils.

Household chemicals: Resists ammonia, vinegar, aliphatic paint thinners, alcohols & detergents.

Color: 1 color garner. Nearly clear.

Color effect: Brings out existing colors.

Gloss: Nil to high depending on number of coats. Multiple coats will increase gloss appearance. Can easily be reduced with light buffing.

Coverage: Dependent on porosity, approx. 400 – 800 square ft/gal. Approx. 1000 square ft/gal on hard quarry tile.

Oil Based Sealer: Penetrates much better than water based sealers on dense materials.

Dry time: Highly dependent on temperature, humidity and ventilation.

Average values: Tack free in less than two hours. Dry between four and six hours. Over application will increase dry times.

Temperature window: 50 – 90 degrees F. (10 C) Min.

Hardness: Sward greater than 30. Tg equivalent approx. 50. Overall hardness is affected by film thickness

Usage:

Preparation: Surface must be clean, extremely dry, and free of detergents, waxes, and unknown sealers. Over application will increase dry time. If treating efflorescence, do not use sulfamic or powdered acids. Use Sparks Brick & Tile Cleaner.

Application:Soft bristle brushes, foam rubber brushes, paint pads or lambs wool applicator. Rollers are not recommended. Allow complete drying of previous coat before re-application.Hand pump sprayers may be used by professional installers. High pressure and high shear sprayers should be avoided. Additional precautions regarding health are recommended, such as respirators, eye protection and protective clothing and gloves. Provide adequate ventilation during application and dry time.

Mex Seal

Designed primarily as an overcoat (topical) sealer for softer tiles: Mexican saltillo, clay and cement tiles. Can also be used as a topical sealer over quarry, stone, etc. when a higher film build is desired. Very durable product eliminates the need to constantly reseal.

Technical:

Water resistance: 72 hours submersion without degradation.

Oil resistance: 72 hours resistance to cooking oil & bacon grease.

Household chemicals: Resists ammonia, vinegar, aliphatic paint thinners, alcohols & detergents.

Color: < 3 color garner. Slightly amber.

Gloss: Initially high. Can be reduced with light buffing.

Color effect: Enhances natural earth tones.

Coverage: 800 square ft/gal on smooth (sealed) surfaces.

Average Dry Time: Tack-free in less than two hours. Dry Between four and twelve hours.
Over application and low temperature, high humidity will increase dry times significantly.

Temperature window: 50°-90° F. (10°C) Min.

Hardness: Sward greater than 20. Tg equivalent approx. 40. Overall hardness is affected by film thickness.

Usage:

Preparation: Surface must be clean & extremely dry. Do not apply over waterborne coatings. May be applied over Sparks S.P.S. after 24 hours dry time.

Application: Apply in thin even coats with a paint brush, paint pad, or lambs wool applicator. Rollers are not recommended. Allow complete drying of previous coat before re-application. Use Stone Glamor on porous substrates prior to using Mex Seal. Hand pump sprayers may be used by professional installers. If Mex Seal penetrates below the surface, allow at least 24 hours before application of second coat. Under adverse conditions allow 72 hours. (High humidity, poor ventilation, low temperature). It is best to use Stone Glamor as a primer before applying Mex Seal.

High pressure and high shear sprayers should be avoided. Additional precautions regarding health are, recommended such as respirators, eye protection and protective clothing and gloves.

Provide adequate ventilation during application and dry time.

SR5 Stripper

A blend of high flash solvents and surfactants designed to remove most sealers and paints; waterborne and oil based. The addition of water during the stripping process causes the stripped material to emulsify, facilitating removal without re-adhesion of the stripped material. The use of higher flash solvents minimizes flammability and health risks; however, adequate ventilation is necessary during use. Stripped material can be mopped up or wet vacuumed if hoses and parts are chemically resistant. Sparks SR-5 is also useful for removing grease and oil from concrete. Do not use Sparks SR-5 on man-made composition flooring.

Directions:

Apply SR-5 stripper to an area no greater than 4 feet square and allow to stand a few minutes. Scrub area with stripping pad or brush, and as material strips, apply approximately an equal amount of water to the area and continue scrubbing. Remove stripped material from floor and rinse as needed. Wear protective clothing. Provide adequate ventilation while using SR-5 Stripper.

Note: Nothing removes reactive silicone or fluropolymer sealers. Epoxies must be scraped off.
