Block
Concrete blocks are made from a mixture of cement, lightweight aggregates, and water. They are an affordable building material that can be used for many construction projects and come in several standard sizes, the most common of which is called a concrete masonry unit (CMU).
A standard concrete block’s actual size is 7 5/8″ wide x 7 5/8″ tall x 15 5/8″ long. By using the standard 3/8″ masonry joint, it equates to an 8″ x 8″ x 16″ block when installed in a structure.
There are a number of benefits to building with concrete block including durability, fire resistance, weather resistance, termite resistance, sound proofing and low maintenance.
